Mathematics tends to be a reasonably precise part of science. Two plus two is four. Not three. Not three and a half. The principles of mathematics are fixed. These principles apply inside the classroom and in life in general. Go to the store, and buy $5.45 cents worth of items, pay with a $10.00 bill, and you will expect $4.55 in change. It is a precise calculation. Have $200.00 in the bank, deposit $100.00, you expect your balance to be $300.00.
Do these mathematical principles apply in a spiritual world? Is mathematics important to God? Are numbers and mathematical principles relevant to our spiritual existence? I would contend that they are. What follows here are my thoughts regarding the process and incontrovertible aspects of the death, burial, and resurrection of Yeshua (Jesus), the forgiveness of sins, and the eternal life that awaits believers.
The main premise that this article will attempt to address is the question as to whether Yeshua is a part of “echad”, wholly God, eternally existent with the Father and the Ruach HaKodesh. Some who profess a faith in Yeshua do acknowledge his existence and a belief that he died for our sins. They do however deny that he is God, but rather is a perfect creation, the first born of the Father God. I will attempt to show by mathematical principles that it is impossible for Yeshua to have died for our sins, be resurrected to eternal life, and raise believers to eternal life unless He were actually the eternal God.
Yeshua stated in John 2:19 “Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” He spoke this regarding his body, death, and resurrection. Note that He says “I” will raise it. He does not say that God will raise him. Nor is it stated in a passive tense, that I will be raised. He proclaims that “I” will raise it. Acts 2:24 states “But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.” So unless Yeshua is God, these two scriptures are in conflict. John 10:18 “No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father.” So again, Yeshua states that He has the authority to take up his life again.
So lets talk about infinity for just a minute. I’m going to oversimplify this for the sake of clarity, so I apologize in advance to you mathematical purists. Lets call the first day of creation “Day 1” . If we count backwards from day 1 forever, lets call this infinity backwards. If we count forwards from day 1 forever, lets call that infinity forward. If we combine counting forward and backwards from day 1 for infinity in both directions, lets call that infinity forwards and backwards.
If we think of life as a bank account, God created Adam and Eve to be eternal beings. Their bank account was infinite (forward), until they sinned. Their bank account had a beginning, at creation, but was designed to have no end. God’s law as given to them stated that if the ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, that they would die. Their infinite bank account would be negated by the sin. when they sinned, it thus became a finite account, since it had a specified beginning and now, a specified end, due to sin. God designated the onset of sin as the termination of their infinite account. Mankind has been under that curse of a limited bank account ever since.
If Yeshua were a created being, without an infinite (backwards AND forwards) bank account, his bank account would be no different than Adam and Eve’s. Once he took his sin upon himself on the execution stake, his infinite(forward) account would be likewise terminated. Once that happened He would have no legal right to be resurrected from the dead, and certainly not to be resurrected to eternal life, nor to grant eternal life to those who believe in him. His bank account, being finite, would not have sufficient funds to cover such a transaction.
But Yeshua’s account WAS(IS) different. Because He is God, eternally existent, his bank account was infinite also BACKWARDS in time. Thus when it was terminated (forward) due to our sin that he bore, it was still an infinite account. This gave him still an infinite account balance, and gave him the authority to take back up his eternal life, and grant from his infinite account, and eternal life to all who believe. If He were NOT God, he would have no authority, power, or ability to take up his life again, nor have the power to grant eternal life to his talmidim. His life bank account would have insufficient fund to cover this transaction.
The conclusion from Mathematics is that Yeshua is God. He laid down his eternal life. He took back up his eternal life because He always was, is, and always will be.
